Guangzhou's International Healthcare Resources
Guangzhou, the core engine of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, has rapidly emerged as a leading destination for international healthcare in southern China. Leveraging its high-quality medical resources, distinctive Lingnan culture, and convenient international transportation, Guangzhou attracted over 3.2 million inbound foreigners in 2025, with foreign medical demand experiencing rapid growth. Driven by a government-backed strategy to build an international medical tourism hub, the city has witnessed remarkable policy progress, including the establishment of the first wholly foreign-owned hospitals in South China. In 2025, the total number of international patients in Guangdong increased by more than 20% year-on-year, with inpatient admissions surging by 76.05%. This guide provides an overview of the major international hospitals, their key departments and specialties, and the advanced medical technologies accessible to international patients in this thriving hub. A newly established one-stop International Medical Tourism Service Center now coordinates 17 pilot hospitals, offering comprehensive services from visa assistance and multilingual translation to post-operative rehabilitation.
Perennial International Hospital (First Wholly Foreign-Owned Hospital in South China)
A landmark development in Guangzhou's international healthcare landscape is the establishment of the first wholly foreign-owned tertiary general hospital in South China. In May 2025, the Singapore-based Perennial Group signed a lease agreement with Guangzhou Metro Group to build the Perennial International Hospital at the Baiyun Station TOD complex. The project is part of a larger 5-billion RMB "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Baiyun International Health and Medical Care City" project covering 1.18 square kilometers. Phase one of the hospital is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026, offering over 200 beds initially, with the tertiary hospital eventually housing 500 beds and serving over 500,000 patients annually. The hospital aims to introduce internationally advanced medical technologies, management expertise, and a multi-disciplinary collaborative diagnostic system. The group is also developing Perennial Rehabilitation Hospital in Huangpu District, Guangzhou's first wholly foreign-owned specialized hospital focused on rehabilitation, with an integrated "medical, health, maintenance, and care" model.
