As of 2026, China provides unilateral visa-free access to 50 countries across Europe, Asia, Oceania and the Americas, including France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, the UK, Russia and Sweden. Brunei’s visa-free policy has no expiration date; Russia’s is valid until September 14, 2026; and the policies for the other 48 countries are extended to December 31, 2026.

The visa-free stay is limited to 30 consecutive calendar days, counted from the day after entry. It applies to tourism, business, family visits, exchanges and transit, for both individual travelers and tour groups. The policy covers all open Chinese ports of entry, except cases regulated by laws or bilateral agreements.

For visa-free entry, you only need a valid ordinary passport (travel permits and emergency documents are not eligible). No advance application at Chinese embassies or consulates is required, but you are advised to carry supporting documents such as hotel reservations, round-trip tickets or invitation letters for border inspection. Minors follow the same requirements.

Important reminders: 1. Visa-free entry does not apply to employment, study or news reporting, for which a relevant visa is required. 2. For stays longer than 30 days, apply for a visa in advance or a stay permit from local exit-entry authorities with valid reasons. 3. Multiple entries are permitted with no current limits, but do not engage in activities inconsistent with your stated entry purpose.

Additional convenient policies: Citizens of 59 countries may enter Hainan Province visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism, business or medical treatment (excluding work and study). 24-hour and 240-hour transit visa-free policies are also available. You can fill out the foreigner entry card online in advance to speed up border clearance.
